MBUSI’s Diversity Initiatives Recognized

Two other significant awards for MBUSI came from the South Regions Minority Business Council, a non-profit organization established in 1983 to promote business development opportunities for minority business enterprises in Alabama, Mississippi and Florida. SRMBC named MBUSI as the region's "Corporation of the Year" and CEO and President, Bill Taylor as "Executive of the Year," recognizing the company's diversity initiatives.

"We're extremely proud to have been selected for this award," said Taylor. "It's a strong validation of the diversity initiatives we put in place seven years ago when we first came to Alabama - in terms of our creation of an inclusive environment for our Team Members, through our contacts with contractors and suppliers and through our involvement in the community."

Throughout the year, MBUSI provide significant support to the South Regions Minority Business council by sponsoring Business Connections 2000, an event designed to promote business development opportunities for minority business enterprises. The company also provided support to the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) and the Birmingham Urban League.

One of the keys to our success at MBUSI lies in our efforts to bring together the talents, experiences and unique perspectives of all our employees to bear on every aspect of our business. MBUSI, in 2000, formed an Administration & Diversity department that is actively working with the external affairs and purchasing areas to promote diversity policies and initiatives within the company.

"Our ongoing goal is that the people involved with facility construction and vehicle production mirror the community," said Bill Taylor. "Quite simply, diversity is the right thing to do."

"Have we made a difference in our community? I think the answer is yes, and I hope that all of our Team Members will agree," said Bill Taylor. "We've made a difference through the significant funds MBUSI contributes in this community, to our level of participation in outside organization and to the volunteerism of our Team Members."
